Bring The New Year In — Long Company Mummers — 2, 3, 5, 6 JanThe Long Company will perform its colourful Mummers play again in these pubs to “Bring the New Year In”
Sunday January 2nd 2022; The Golden Lion, Todmorden OL14 6LZ
The six characters, Old King Christmas, Saint George, the Prince of Paradine, Common Jack , the Doctor and Beelzebub , in brightly coloured costumes and tall headpieces, declaim their lines both old and new. Themes of good versus evil, treachery, deceit, heroism and poverty are played out, introduced by the jovial spirit of the season, Old King Christmas. (Videos of previous performances HERE) We are fairly confident that the Mummers play will go ahead, unaffected by any new restrictions the government introduces. However, the music, song and dance session in the pub after the play may be at risk. We understand that people will have differing views on where they feel safe and what they can do to reduce the chances of getting infected and infecting others. This can only be settled on the night by those present so bring your instrument, your song (seasonal or funny) and yourself.
